One Year Course in Expository Preaching and Practical

Goals:

The purpose of the course would be to equip to teach the Word of God in all its fullness within the context of the local church. If the course received MA accreditation, all students would have to do one initial  taught year at DBI and would then have the option of doing one further year of research and dissertation to make it up to a full MA.

In order to meet these educational objectives, each student needs:

• Bible teaching (head) - so that their thinking is clear.
• Character development (heart) - so that their living is right and they grow in character/godliness.
• Ministry opportunities (hands) - so that they are putting into practice what they are learning and their training is kept practical.

Church Based Theological Education

Goals:

The objective of CBTE is to provide the leaders and emerging leaders of local churches with superb theological education that is integrated fully with the development of their churches.

The goal of CBTE is to see leaders equipped for vocational and non-vocational ministry, while also providing opportunity for development of everyone in their churches. The five major tenants are:

• It is based in the life of a local church and a movement of churches.
• It is primarily viewed as a process of entrusting sound doctrine to faithful men.
• It takes place in the context of establishing churches.
• It is viewed as a need for all men and women regardless of their situation in life.
• It begins with the first principles of faith.

The philosophy of CBTE recognizes non-formal education as effective and ideally-suited for the needs of the churches and church leaders.

• It allows pastors to develop without leaving their churches for extended periods of time.
• It is serious, ordered learning that is uniquely oriented to ministry development.
• It includes rigorous assessment and demonstration of outcomes.
• It integrates knowledge aquisition, skill development, and character developement.
• It is scalable and economically efficient so that the entire church network can be served.
• It places leadership development in the context of church development.

The Principles Series
The First Principles Series is a set of 13, six-session Bible study guides for use with small groups. The series employs a highly effective study method using readings, personal relfection, group interaction, and projects.

The First Principles Series sytematically teaches core principles, leading participants in firmly establishing their faith on to a deeper commitment level.

• Series I - Covers the beginnings of personal faith and carefully lays a firm foundation for growth.
• Series II - Presents the Biblical wisdom necesssary for a fruitful lifework, marriage, and family.
• Series III - Initiates the believer into an ordered study of the Bible.

The Leadership Series
The Leadership Series is a comprehensive set of resources designed to integrate with a church-based process of equipping ministers of the gospel. Engagement with church and mission is the integrated thread throughout the series. This accomplishes two primary objectives:

• To equip leaders in a sound church-based philosophy of ministry, godly character, and essential skills required of those with equipping gifts.
• To guide leaders in the formation of a biblical theology of the Bible and in  the completion of a "Comprehensive Belief Framework in Culture," which equips leaders to address their contemporary cultural issues from the foundation of the biblical narrative.

The ultimate aim of the course is for participants to encounter Jesus. The main ingredients that distinguish Christianity Explored are:

 

•  It aims to answer three questions that cut to the heart of Christianity: Who is Jesus? Why did He come? What does it mean to follow Him?
• The course repeatedly explored the problems of sin, which exist in the human heart, God's wrath, judgment and hell so that the sheer wonder of God's unmerited love cna be fully grasped.
• Participants are given time and space to consider the cost of becoming a disicple of Christ.

Gospel Transformation

Gospel Transformation is a 36-lesson inductive study focusing on what matters most: our need for the transforming power of the gospel. For small groups or personal study it goes straight to the heart, exploring such issues as: repentance, foriveness, the flesh, compassion, believing our justification, and much more. It teaches how to apply the gospel to Christians, especially professionals.
